        BE A DISTRIBUTOR
Cocovida is looking for resellers all over Europe. With our new plant opening early next year, and our team working round the clock to maximize production levels here in Manila, we feel we are at the stage where we can expand our operation. We must state categorically though, increased production will in no way diminish the quality of our oil. We produce the best virgin coconut oil you can find, that will never change.

The Production Process
As mentioned in other parts of the site, we use the cold-process method of production. This page isn't for discussing the merits of our process, or the reasons why we don't use any heat. This page is to show you, with the aid of photographs taken by our CEO, how we manufacture our oil. We apologise for the quality of photos, Mel swears it is the camera's fault.
Process 1

Robert selects the finest nuts, while Zak gets ready to start grating. The other two are not really needed, but wanted to get in the photograph. We keep repeating, it is vitally important to use the finest nuts. The cold-process method will not yield much oil if the nuts are not fresh and mature.

Process 2

Zak grates the nuts. He is extremely good at this. It is nowhere near as easy as it looks. He grates a whole coconut in under ten seconds, and still has all his fingers.

Seriously, it is a skilled job, requiring a skilled person, and we employ the best there is.

Process 3

Dodong and Edgar extract the coconut milk, by pressing the grated coconut, using manual presses. This is extremely hard work, as it is important to collect as much milk as possible. We only press once, so it has to be productive.

The residue from the grated coconut is sold as animal feed.

Process 4

After pressing, we have our coconut milk. This is ready to be transfered to the settling room, where it will be allowed to stand in clean, hygenic conditions for between 12 and 17 hours. The time taken depends on several factors. Having spent a considerable amount of time discovering the requirements needed to produce the best oil, we are not prepared to inform our competitors on the internet. (Sorry !!)

Process 5

The oil is separating from the protein and the skim milk. All this work for so little oil. ( It is a very fine oil though.)

Process 6

The oil is "harvested" by first removing the protein, then, using an almost flat ladle, scooping out the oil. Both Robert and Manilyn have very steady hands, which is incredibly important in this job. Any hint of moisture mixed with the oil and it is rejected, for reasons that will become evident later. ( Yes, they really do dress as though they are performing a heart transplant. The purity of our oil is our number one priority. One mistake and our reputation is tarnished forever ).

Process 7

We now have our oil, and begin the procedure to assure it's purity, the first and second filterings, both using 8 microns filter paper. The first filtering takes place directly after the oil has been harvested, the second filtering takes place a day later, after the oil has settled. We don't need to filter twice, but it's that reputation thing again.

Process 8

After the second filtering, we have a very clear oil. However we still have a minute moisture content. We could use heat to rid the oil of this moisture, there is probably nothing wrong with that. It simply goes against our understanding of "virgin" oil.

What we actually do, is allow the oil to stand for about 4 weeks, until the final moisture separates from the oil. Then we discard the moisture, which settles at the bottom of the pale, when filtering again. We actually filter twice more, this time with 5 micons filter paper. Unfortunately in discarding the moisture we inevitably discard some oil as well. What price a great reputation !

Process 9

We now have Cocovida Virgin Coconut Oil, "probably the finest virgin coconut oil in the world". (OK, we stole a small part of that slogan) It just needs to pass the quality control of both our CEO Mel, and Catherine B. Lee ND, who when she is not working for Cocovida, is a consultant on food safety to several international companies.

Process 10

Finally we get around to bottling and labelling.

All that work for so few jars and bottles. Then we get asked why it costs so much...... BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST, simple as that.

        Latest News

Alright, so it's been quite a while since we last updated this section. We have been busy you know, collecting awards, bringing out new products, rushing here, there and everywhere.... and of course, producing probably the finest virgin coconut oil in the world. You tell me another VCO company that goes to the trouble we do, to keep the public updated.... and we've now got our blog, www.cocovida-coconutoil. blogspot.com, to keep up to date.

So here we go, most of the things of note that have happened to Cocovida during the last few months.

Perhaps the most important, is that we now have another website, in Singapore, www.cocovida.sg. Derrick, who runs the operation, is going to cover Singapore and Malaysia for us. Like us, and Nigel and Jacquie in the UK, he is a firm believer in totally natural products. He is also a bit of an internet wizard, which helps when you are setting up a web-based business. The first shipment arrived in Singapore two weeks ago, and so far, Derrick is extremely pleased with the response.

Of course, we must mention collecting the award for Best Virgin Coconut Oil Manufacturer. As promised, we took all the staff to the awards ceremony and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are now the proud owners of a very fine trophy, which has pride of place in our office.

I mentioned our blog, which has been up and running for the last couple of months. It is a really good way of keeping up with all of our news...... and some other events, which will probably be of absolutely no interest to you whatsoever. www.cocovida-coconutoil. blogspot.com.

Nigel and Jacquie in the UK have been breaking all records with their sales over the last few months. Not only do we applaud their effort, we thank them very much as well. If you work as hard as they do, you have a better than average chance of being successful. Of course it helps if you have a great product to sell... http://www.cocovida.uk , they ship to virtually anywhere.

Our move to Samar, and our new plant, has been put back until later this year. We have commitments, which will keep us in Quezon City for the next few months. However, if everything works out as planned, we will be moving to a much bigger production plant very soon.

The Alexis oil for hair has been a massive success..... probably because it is a fantastic hair oil. We will be adding another product to our range very soon, but for reasons that I guess are fairly obvious, we are not going to say very much about it, until it is available for sale.... Industrial espionage in the VCO industry, can you believe it!

We now sell 6 of the finest handmade soaps in the world. The 3 new soaps being, Garden Fresh Tomato, Cool Orange and Vanilla Oatmeal. They are all made using our own VCO, and we are convinced that once you try them, you will never go back to your old soap.

We now have Halal certification. We are extremely proud to have this, as we are one of very few VCO producers to have been granted this distinction. Our thanks go to the Philippine Office on Muslim Affairs, for all their help.

Last, but by no means least, we are being filmed by The Knowledge Channel, for a program about starting your own VCO business. As soon as we know the date the program is being shown, it will be announced on our blog.
